Many cars built in recent years and most new cars are painted with a clear top coat paint - "clear coat" paints. Many older cars and some new cars do not have a clear top coat, and are referred to as "single stage" paints. All of the paint finishing products sold by 3M are Clear Coat safe, and work equally well on single stage paints. When buffing single stage metallic paints, use caution to avoid buffing too deeply and exposing the metallic flakes.
